Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York

When James Deere was diagnosed last year with a very rare Strep Type A blood infection, his family wasn’t sure he was going to make it. His kidneys were failing and he was suffering from toxic shock. This attack on this little boy’s blood stream resulted in his left arm and right leg being amputated, as well as a stroke and hypoxia of the cerebellum (lack of oxygen supply to the brain).

During this time James endured intensive treatment at hospitals and was fitted for prosthesis, while his mother took a leave of absence from her job and his father closed his restaurant so they could both be there for their child.

Recently, James was finally able to return home, but was in need of a clean, comfortable room to continue daily physical therapy in. That’s where Adirondack Basement Systems came in.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York reached out to Kevin Koval, owner of Adirondack Basement Systems, and explained the situation. The Adirondack team didn’t hesitate to lend a hand.

“We finished 850 square feet of basement for the family including flooring, ceilings and an egress window,” Koval said. “They will be using it for a rehabilitation area.”

Total Basement Finishing donated all of the finishing materials. James is now recovering well at home with his family. Great job to Kevin Koval and the rest of the Adirondack crew for helping this family return to normalcy.

Adirondack Basement Systems provides basement finishing installation and services to greater Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, and many other surrounding areas.

In addition, when water builds up around the foundation, hydrostatic pressure increases and causes even more cracks. It'™s a continual issue for homeowners, and New Yorkers are no exception.

The recent rain and hail have really instigated numerous problems ”but who am I telling? If you're facing a wet basement, one that smells of must and mildew, then you've contacted the right people. We are here for you and we want to help restore your basement and protect it against the effects of future inclement weather.

Contact the experts at Adirondack Basement Systems today for basement waterproofing in Rensselaer County, NY and all surrounding areas such as Troy and Waterford.
Spray Foam Insulation Saves You Money and Energy

Home installations can become intrusive, messy and frustrating. There's nothing worse than paying for something and expecting big changes, but seeing such a little return on investment. If you've had the pink and fluffy fiberglass insulation in your home then you might be able to relate with the distress of a faulty installation.

So, what's the other option for home insulation? Let's talk about spray foam insulation.

Spray Foam Basics

Many homeowners are looking for ways to go green and use less energy. When they pay for insulation thinking it'll reduce their energy usage and provide a more comfortable home, they may find their expectations unmet.

However, spray foam is a form of insulation that is less visible than the fluffy pink fiberglass insulation. This insulation is also capable of meeting multiple needs including sealing, lowering utility bills and protecting against pollutants in the air.

This insulation is ideal for use in a basement or a crawl space! Can you imagine the benefits of finishing a basement and having it completely sealed without any mold growth?! Now that's a bonus.

In addition, this spray foam insulation may even qualify you for a Federal Tax Credit. Make sure you cash in for your reward.

The Debate

Maybe you need more than just "spray foam is better than fiberglass" to be encouraged to buy spray foam for your home. Let's compare the fiberglass and spray foam insulations.

Spray foam insulation is a multifaceted polyurethane insulation that serves as a vapor barrier and an air barrier, which means you save more energy and money. In addition, spray foam is practically waterproof and doesn't fall apart and out of place. Unfortunately, fiberglass is only a thermal barrier and moist air can quickly flow through creating condensation leading to mold and mildew, and unfortunately, it frequently detaches and falls out of place.

As for lessening the job of the heating and cooling system? Spray foam does an excellent job because of its high R-value per inch. This means that it has a higher resistance to heat flow and a greater insulating value. It also provides more efficient sealing capabilities whereas fiberglass leaves gaps and open space.

Spray foam is durable, so much that critters and insects can't chew through its fibers, unlike fiberglass which is a constant nesting ground for animals and insects.

Contact Adirondack Basement Systems today for spray foam insulation in Albany, NY. They're your trusted Upstate NY spray foam contractor serving areas such as Waterford and Clifton Park with extensive experience in the home improvement industries of crawl space, foundation and basement repair and waterproofing

Adirondack Helps Regional Food Bank Collect Food For Holidays And Guess Who's Shaving His Head

Adirondack acknowledges the need for food across the United States and within our very own New York state. We want to help in any way possible. As there is a growing need for food during the upcoming Holiday seasons, we will be collecting donations from October 21-November 11 near the Office Drop Off. But any donations made at other locations will be accumulated and given to the Northeastern Regional Food Bank for their Holiday Hunger Appeal.

The Hunger Appeal is the Northeastern Regional Food Bank's greatest opportunity to receive public donations and influence families in need. From mid-November until Christmas Eve volunteers will be setup at the Crossgates Mall to receive donations.

We're joining alongside other businesses to collect donations, please help us in providing those less fortunate than ourselves with quality food they can enjoy during the Holidays.

Oh, and this message is from Kevin Koval, owner of Adirondack:

"We have had a great start to the food drive this weekend! Our goal is to fill one of our trucks with donations. At our weekly production meeting today, my guys said that they will do whatever they can to fill a truck and if they reach that goal, they want me to shave my head. I reluctantly agreed, but added that my production manager, Rodney, would have to do the same. He agreed! So, if you all want to see me bald, send in your donations of non perishable food items! While you are doing that, I'll be shopping for hats...Thanks! Kevin"

As always, Adirondack Basement Systems is your local expert for basement waterproofing in New York. If you have a wet basement or a dirt crawl space in need of some repairs, we'd love to give you a free estimate and inspection. Contact us today!
Featuring dry basement on news Channel 9

On Capital News 9 Channel, Kevin Koval of Adirondack Basement Systems presented the idea of having Dry Basement and its advantage.

"If you keep your basement wet, instead of fixing it and making it dry,
you can get rot in the beams upstairs. It can rust out your furnace,
your water heater. It also makes your house harder to heat and cool
when the air is wet," said Koval.

Please Click here to see the full video here.

I hope for the home owners around Upstate New York this video matters a lot and everyone is aware of their wet basement.
To WET Vac or NOT to Wet Vac? That is the Question

To WET- VAC or NOT to WET- VAC that is the Question!!!!

Is your basement SMELLY, DAMP, MOLDY, or WET? Do you cringe when you see the weather forecast calls for rain? Are you DREADING the spring thaw? Can you have an indoor pool party in the basement? Do you HATE going in the basement? Do you and your honey flip a coin to see whose turn it is to wet-vac the basement?

If you answered YES to any or all of these questions, then Adirondack Basement Systems can help!!!

There are many different reasons why basements leak!!! The main concept is that water flows down hill and will ALWAYS find the path of least resistance (in this case that big open area under your home- your basement)
Lets review a few:
Builders spent monies on pretty things- cabinets, kitchens, floors, windows- items that homeowners look for when purchasing a home, and did the bare minimum in the water proofing of the basement.
Exterior footing drains have become clogged from silt or have been blocked/ broken over the years.
The same is true for interior drainage systems.
Cracks in walls from shrinkage and settling have over time begun to leak.
Which ever may be your issue have no fear WE ARE HERE TO HELP!!!
We have many different ways to help you to keep your basement dry ALL OF THE TIME!!! Our Design Specialists are trained in all aspects of basement waterproofing, structural repair, moisture control, dehumidification, and crawl space solutions. We would love to help you to solve your water/moisture needs. Call us today to schedule a FREE written estimate, and receive a DRY BASEMENT SCIENCE or CRAWL SPACE SCIENCE book FREE. Our main goal is to educate; we want to make sure that every home has a safe, usable living environment for the entire family!!!
