Waterproofing in Schenectady, NY

A homeowner in Schenectady, NY  contacted us in regards to water coming into the basement. We got her on the schedule for Design Specialist, Jeff to go out and assess the issue. When inspecting the basement, he noticed that there was water damage to the walls, floor, and very bad musty smell in the basement. He also noticed that  the windows in the basement were very old and was allowing water to get through. Once going over what should be done and what would help this basement problem the most, the homeowner was very happy to move forward and set a date for the install. On the day of the install, Brandon and his crew got to wok immediately! They installed 78 feet of BrightWall to the walls which is a nice white paint like sheet that acts as a vapor barrier and is fully waterproof! Next, they installed our ThermalDry Elite Plank flooring which is made from inorganic material so it is prone to water and mold damage. It also provides a nice finished look to the basement. Next, they replaced the rusted windows with our EverLast windows. Lastly they installed a SaniDry Sedona for the humidity to easily escape from the basement. This homeowner is very happy with his new and improved basement that looks finished but is also completely waterproofed!

After talking with the homeowner on what his wants and needs were, Jeff came to the conclusion and recommended our EverLast windows. After going over some of the advantages of replacing old windows with our EverLast ones, the homeowner decided to move forward with the project. Fixing an Old Basement Waterproofing System in Schenectady NY

A newly moved in homeowner in Schenectady was not to fond of his new basement. When he purchased the home, he noticed that there was no sump pump in a previously installed sump pump hole. He also noticed that there was old water stains on the wall of the basement from previous leaks. When talking to friends about his issue, everyone spoke highly of Adirondack Basement Systems and told him that we could fix his problem. Jeff went to the home to get a good look at the basement. He knew that the homeowner was looking for a new sump pump so he recommended that a SuperSump be installed. He also recommended that BrightWall should be installed for the leaks in the wall and it would give a better look to the home. On the day of the install, Tim and his crew, installed the BrightWall panels along with adding a SuperSump to the already dug sump pit.

Adding an Egress Window to a Basement Bedroom in Schenectady NY

This homeowner in Schenectady NY, had a bedroom in her basement. The bedroom originally had three small windows that were at the top of the wall, which allowed little to no light in the bedroom at times. After some internet searching, she came across Adirondack Basement Systems and was intrigued with the two different window options that we provide to our customers. At the initial appointment, Dave, suggested that an egress window would be the best investment for a basement bedroom. With the installation of an Egress window it is also recommended that a RockWell be installed as well for a fast exit in case of an emergency. The homeowner liked the idea of having an escape route if there were to be an emergency. Dave quickly scheduled her in for an install. On the day of the install, Brandon and his crew had to create a big enough hole to fit the large Egress window into. After the hole is cut, the area on the outside around the window is dug up so that the window well can go into the ground. Now that the Egress and RockWell is installed, this homeowner has natural light and an emergency exit!

When this couple decided to purchase their home in Schenectady NY, they noticed that there had previously been water in the basement. When they asked their realtor what to do, they recommended this couple to contact us here at Adirondack Basement Systems. Design Specialist, Tonya recommended that these new homeowners should get a TripleSafe sump pump. On the day of the install, Brandon and his team installed the sump pump with a LawnScape outlet into the hill that the home stands on so that the water being pumped out will go down the hill. They also installed an IceGuard which will not allow the pipes to freeze during the cold winter of Upstate NY. Since these homeowners are new to the area, they were more than happy to have found something that could give them a little less to worry about.

Water Damaged Wall Prevention in Scotia, NY

The walls of this basement prior to installation suffered consistent water damage, leaving them worn, damp, and at risk of further deterioration. To remedy these issues and protect the rest of the basement from water damage, our team installed a full perimeter system with WaterGuard, BrightWall, and a sump pump. The first step was to remove small portions of the floor and base of the wall where the two meet. This allowed room for the WaterGuard to get installed, whose job is to collect any moisture that seeps into the basement and directs it to the sump pump, preventing the water from pooling. Once this system was fastened, we replaced the bits of the wall and floor we removed then installed BrightWall panels. BrightWall’s job is to help with insulation and moisture regulation. After completing the entire waterproofing system, this basement had a well-rounded, efficient defense against moisture.

New Basement Windows in Niskayuna, NY

Windows are integral to the health of a basement. This homeowner had windows and wells paired with them that had seen better days. Wanting to upgrade, they called us and our team got to work carefully measuring the windows, both inside and outside of the home. Since each window is custom ordered, these measurements were key. When the window arrived, the installation team cleared out an area to work in and began by removing the old windows. Then, they inserted the new ones where the old ones were, sealing up even the smallest gaps between them and the wall to ensure a tight fit, preventing water and other things from getting in while also keeping heat in, helping your home on multiple fronts.

Partial Waterproofing System in Scotia, NY

This homeowner was experiencing significant amounts of water in a specific corner of their basement, which meant that a partial waterproofing system would do the trick. Small sections of the base of the wall and the floor underneath were removed to clear an area for the WaterGuard then filled back in. Going a little ways up the wall, CleanSpace was spread to act as a vapor barrier. These two products help facilitate moisture and keep it from infiltrating the basement and pooling. They redirect the water to the next product that was installed: the SinglePack sump pump. The sump takes in any water sent its way and pumps it out through the EDC pipe to a distance far enough away that it can't come right back in. On the outside of the home, you can see the IceGuard attached to the EDC right as it exists the home. This product helps keep the water from freezing during the winter months and backing up the system or bursting the pipes. Everything seen here is typically featured in our waterproofing systems, both complete and partial.

Crawl Space Vapor Barrier in Schenectady, NY

Crawl Spaces need attention too! This job story showcases the transformation of an old, neglected crawl space. One of our design specialists got in there and surveyed the area, making note of the moisture’s points of entry as well as the overall condition of the crawl space. Afterwards, they drew up a plan for a full CleanSpace system, then passed it off to the installation team who got to work spreading the durable vapor barrier along the walls and floor. With this system in place, this crawl space became well-protected from invading moisture, keeping the space and the rest of the home free of water damage and that stale, musty smell that comes with consistent moisture.

Big Three Waterproofing Products in Schenectady, NY

This job story features the big three: WaterGuard, CleanSpace, and a sump pump. First to be installed was the WaterGuard. WaterGuard required small portions of the base of the wall and the floor underneath to be removed. The product is then placed in the opening and covered back up. WaterGuard collects any moisture that finds its way through the basement walls and redirects it to the sump pump to keep it from pooling and causing damage. Next, the CleanSpace was spread along the walls to act as a vapor barrier, helping out the WaterGuard keep moisture at bay. Finally, the sump pump utilized was one of our simpler models, the SuperSump. The SuperSump is a great pump for any basement looking to properly regulate water levels and keep their basement clean and dry. Together, the three products work in unision to keep this home free of water!

PowerBraces Correcting Bowing Walls in Niskayuna, NY

The walls of this basement home had horizontal cracks running along the walls caused by bowing. Thankfully, the extent of the damage wasn’t beyond repair and the bowing wall could be corrected back to their original position with the help of PowerBraces.

PowerBraces are a great buckling wall solution because they are custom cut and ordered for each job, meaning they are always optimized for the specific basement. This example showcases a typical PowerBrace installation. Spots were marked at evenly spaced locations to allow the weight of the house to rest evenly on each beam. Then, the custom PowerBraces are brought in and attached the base of the wall and where the top meets the ceiling. Once each was placed at their designated locations and fastened securely, they are then tightened slightly to help keep the wall from bowing further as well as begin the correction process! Over the course of service visits, the PowerBraces will be tightened further, gradually bringing the walls back to their original position. PowerBraces are the perfect choice for anyone dealing with buckling or bowing foundation walls!

WaterGuard and Triple Safe Combo in Schenectady, NY

This basement was experiencing high amounts of water coming in, primarily from the bottom corners of the wall, causing small puddles to form all around. Consistent levels of water like this basement experienced leads to serious damage and deterioration. It’s important to address the issue before the problem gets worse and the amount of work it would take to correct the issue skyrockets. We surveyed the basement, going over every corner, determining where the water was coming in and to what extent. A plan of action was then drawn up and presented to the homeowner. A well-rounded waterpoofing system involving WaterGuard and a TripleSafe was proposed and approved. The installation team got to work as soon as possible, beginning by removing the bottom portions of the walls and the floor underneath those segments to make room for the WaterGuard. WaterGuard acts as a facilitator for water coming in from the outside soil. It then directs the water through its system to the sump pump where it’s sent out to a proper distance away from the home where it won’t come flowing right back in and negating all the hard work. There was already a sump pump in the home, so installation of the new TripleSafe was easier, able to go right where the old apparatus was. After that was hooked up to the exterior discharge and WaterGuard, the team replaced the pieces of the wall they removed and cleaned up any messes they made, bringing the project to an end! Now, this basement is protected from even the worst New York storms!

Complete Waterproofing System in Niskayuna, NY

Waterproofing systems come in all different shapes, designs, and sizes, but the principles behind them remain constant. One of our certified design specialists inspected the basement, checking it for water entry points and mapped out a system that would solve all the homeowner’s issues pertaining to water entering their basement. The design specialist presented that plan to them and after they agreed to the terms, the job was passed on to the installation team. The first step for them was to clear an opening at the base of the walls where they meet the floor to make room for the WaterGuard. WaterGuard’s job is to collect any water seeping in from the walls and redirect in to the sump pump. WaterGuard is the primary product used for this job, but when there are areas of the basement walls that can’t be reached, like in this home with the stairs leading down to the basement, TrenchDrain is used. TrenchDrain is basically the same as WaterGuard except it is installed on the open floor as opposed to the base of the wall. These two products send water to the sump pump, which sends it out of the house and to a distance far enough away that it doesn’t come running right back. Finally, BrightWall was placed along all the basement walls to act as a protective barrier and insulator. BrightWall is also a good product to install if you are planning on finishing your basement. With this system in place, the homeowner can now rest easy knowing their basement is fully waterproofed!

Block Foundation Support in Schenectady, NY

CarbonArmor is a unique, interesting block foundation solution.  Each type of foundation requires a different approach and set of products to get the job done, which is why it’s important for our design specialists to be directly involved, investigating every aspect of the basement to gauge what needs to happen. Once they got a plan in place and went over their proposed solution with the homeowner, they passed the job off to the installation team.

The team marked off locations for where each strip of CarbonArmor was to go. Like our PowerBrace system, CarbonArmor has to be properly spaced out to keep one area from taking on too much weight and collapsing under the pressure of the house. After that prep work was completed, they carefully applied the CarbonArmor to the selected locations. CarbonArmor is super strong, yet takes up no room in your basement. It attaches right to the wall and you can put anything you want over it, whether it be insulation, walls for basement finishing, or even paint! Regardless of what the homeowner chose to do with their basement, CarbonArmor would be there to support their foundation. With its fiber-reinforced polymers, CarbonArmor is strong and reliable; the perfect choice for giving block foundations a boost.

Bowing Wall Solution in Schenectady, NY

PowerBraces are a great product for supporting bowing basement walls and the installation process isn’t complicated by any means! The process started with measuring the displacement of the wall to gauge the extent of the damage, along with which walls are suffering the most. Next, more measurement is done to set up a proposed layout for how many PowerBraces would be needed and where they would need to be placed to keep the weight of the foundation distributed evenly. Once the planning stage was completed, the installation team got to work installing the PowerBraces in their marked locations. PowerBraces don’t cause any disruption to the basement. Some other foundation solutions require outside excavation, but PowerBraces doesn’t! This product attaches right to the inside of the basement walls and immediately provides much-needed support to the foundation, taking the strain off of the existing walls, stopping them from buckling any further. PowerBraces can also be tightened over time and correct the walls back to their original position, making this product an all-around great choice for any basement experiencing foundation troubles!

Beautiful Window Upgrade in Glenville, NY

This customer had a small basement window that was a bit on the older side and they wanted to upgrade and make it bigger with more protection. We surveyed the house, both on the inside and out, to determine if it was doable. We then recommended some products and conversed with the homeowner to create a plan that satisfied them. The end result was a large EverLast window paired with a RockWell and a covering.

The house had a block foundation which did not pose a problem for installing a larger window. On the outside of the home, the soil was mainly loam and would be kept primarily on site after excavation at the owner’s request to help level a portion of the backyard in the future for a patio. We dug out a general area so we had room to work on the outside of the house. We carefully measured on both the inside and the outside, mapping out the proper dimensions for the EverLast window on the foundation. Next, we took a step back and planned out the location of the RockWell and covering based on the spot of the window. We then got the custom window order in and once that arrived, we cut out a new sill in the foundation and installed the window, making sure it was a perfect fit and that no water could get in and no heat could escape. Following that, we moved outside and installed the RockWell and covering, then filled in the area we dug out and evened out the surface so grass can start growing back. And the job was completed! The homeowner now has a beautiful EverLast window system that brightens up the look of the basement and more efficiently protects it from the elements!

Waterproofing/Foundational Support Combo Job in Schenectady, NY

This customer was having difficulties with both their foundation and a wet basement. Let’s look first at the waterproofing system and the steps we took to protect this basement from invading moisture.

Upon first glance, it was evident that water had its way with this basement for quite some time. The walls and floors both had signs of water damage, along with structural issues (more on that later). The first thing we did was set up a WaterGuard system paired with one of our TripleSafe sump pumps. The WaterGuards were installed at the footing of the walls, creating an indoor gutter system of sorts that wraps around the perimeter of the basement, collecting any moisture that seeps in through the walls or floor and redirects it to the TripleSafe. This house had a pre-existing pump, but it could not handle the amount of water that was coming in, which is why we chose to remove the old one and replace it with a TripleSafe. The TripleSafe is a top-of-the-line product, capable of handling high volumes of water and isn’t something that you need to be constantly worried about failing even in cold weather or a blackout due to its built-in backup battery and the IceGuard—an add-on frequently paired with the TripleSafe to give it protection from temperatures below freezing. Then, to wrap up the waterproofing portion of the job, we installed a floor-to-ceiling CleanSpace system to act as a vapor barrier, keeping moisture at bay and redirecting it into the WaterGuards below, all while brightening up the look of the basement a bit.

Now for the foundational portion of this job. The most noticeable issues were some sagging floors, bowing walls, and cracks between the individual blocks of the basement. While the waterproofing system involved a decent number of products, the foundation support only required two: PowerBraces and SmartJacks. The PowerBraces were installed to correct the slightly bowing walls, providing extra support and even the opportunity to set the walls back to their original position. A series of four PowerBraces were secured right over the CleanSpace with no added hassle or serious labor; all we had to do was get the right size and fasten them in their proper place. SmartJacks work in a similar way to PowerBraces except their job is to help with saggy, bouncy floors above. As foundations settle, the floors often get shifted out of place or start to drop inwards ever so slightly and can lead to more serious issues if not addressed in a timely manner. What the SmartJacks do is get underneath the floors and act as piers to hold the foundation steady. And like PowerBraces, they are fully adjustable which allows them to be tightened over time and lift the floors back to the correct level.

This home is greatly protected on all fronts now, thanks to both their new waterproofing system and foundational support!

CarbonArmor Installation in Schenectady, NY

CarbonArmor was the name of the game for this job. The homeowner was experiencing foundation issues and it was showing up in the form of bowing walls, which is what made CarbonArmor the perfect answer to this problem.

The first step in the CarbonArmor installation process was to assess the walls and gauge just how much they’ve moved and how much support they would need. Then, we marked and measured precise locations for where the CarbonArmor would go. Once that was finished and everything is double-checked, it was time to place the CarbonArmor. This product is great because not only does it have ten times the strength of steel thanks to its fiber-reinforced polymers, but the installation process is super quick and the cure time is quite short, meaning it’ll be finished and working shortly after it’s placed along the walls. Also, despite its great strength, CarbonArmor is flexible and has the ability to mold to any wall. Finally, even though this product is already pretty noninvasive, the homeowner can totally cover it up with paint or whatever else they’d like to do to match the rest of the basement. CarbonArmor is a super helpful, unobtrusive solution to foundation problems in your home!

CleanSpace Vapor Barrier in Schenectady, NY

Many people tend to overlook the importance of the crawl space when thinking about the health of their house. When it comes to air quality in particular, the crawl space is vital. Half of the air in the home originates from the basement or crawl space, so if that area of the home is in bad shape, then it could lead to problems throughout.

A common problem homeowners face when dealing with their crawl space is moisture. Unprotected crawl spaces give water easy access inside, causing high humidity, damp air, and damage. One great product to keep moisture from entering is our CleanSpace system. CleanSpace is 20mm thick, comprised of a 7-layer polyethylene, meaning it’s super durable. CleanSpace acts as a vapor barrier to not only keep moisture out, but as an added bonus it also keeps heat in. Installation of this product for this crawl space (and any other job) is simple and easy. We start by gaining access to the crawl space and survey the area, taking careful, precise measurements of the walls and floor to gauge how much CleanSpace will be needed and how it will need to be cut. As evident by the first photo, sometimes the crawl spaces can be difficult to get in and out of, but it's no trouble for us! Once the prepwork was completed, our installation team ordered the proper amount of CleanSpace lining, then went in to lay it out in the crawl space. Once the desired area was covered and secured, we added some drainage matting to help deter any water that happens to find its way in and with that final touch the job was complete; a simple, effective installation that provides great protection from invading moisture.

New basement flooring in Schenectady, NY

Periodic water seepage led to this customer wanting to install new, nicer flooring in her basement. Originally, carpet was put down over an old concrete floor. Our Design Specialist visited with the customer and showed her all of her options, and she chose mocha and dark walnut plank flooring. She was ecstatic with her results!

Waterproofing Installation in Schenectady, NY

Homeowners in Schenectady, NY had a very damp basement that they were looking to make dry. They met with one of our Certified Basement Specialists to receive a FREE estimate on the steps it would take to make their basement dry. He did a thorough inspection of the basement and found that there was moisture seeping through the walls and black mold growing in some places. After going through the homeowners' goals, he provided them an estimate with the different products he recommended for waterproofing their basement.

We installed CleanSpace vapor barrier on the walls to prevent moisture seeping through the walls and growing mold. CleanSpace is made from an inorganic material so it can't support any type of mold-growth which helps keep your basement clean and healthy. To prevent any further water from entering the basement, we installed a SuperSump with a WaterGuard perimeter drainage system. Lastly, a SaniDry XP was installed to help control humidity levels and make the space healthy to breathe in.

A Better Quality Sump System in Schenectady, NY

A homeowner in Schenectady, NY  had a sump pump in his basement that wasn't working properly. The basement had flooded twice due to failures, so the homeowner decided it was time to find a permanent solution and invest in a quality sump pump. They contacted Adirondack Basement Systems for a free estimate after doing research online and reading about our sump systems. One of our Design Specialists met with the homeowner to inspect their basement and discuss which of our sump systems would best suit their needs.

The TripleSafe Sump System was perfect for this basement as the homeowner would be assured of no failure. This system features 2 powerful pumps and a third battery back up pump all encased within a liner that filters out sediment with a sealed cover. The cover prevents moisture from entering the basement and wreaking havoc with mildew. With this new system they no longer have to worry about a flooded basement.

Have 2 areas in basement that have cracks. I am not sure if they are superficial. Before I install interior walls I would like them looked at.
Project Location: Schenectady, NY
Garage wall under partial grade may have sunk. The house is 60 years old, could be old settling, there are definitely signs of old settling like old cracks in the plaster and old cracks in concrete. However windows to not stick, they are not the original windows so they could have been replaced after some initial settling. The same wall (block wall) can have some water leak through when the soil outside is saturated, like lots of snow melting.
