The basement featured in this job story was experiencing a decent amount of pooling water, especially during steady rainfalls. They had a pre-existing sump pump, but it was dated and since it didn’t have any other products to assist with getting the water out, the pump couldn’t keep up. A member of our team came out and inspected the basement to see what could be done to keep it dry. What they came up with was a complete waterproofing system to provide a cohesive defense against invading water even during the worst northeastern storms.
The primary areas for improvement that were focused on were upgrading the sump pump and setting up a proper way to facilitate any water that inevitably finds its way in through the walls to keep it from pooling and causing damage. In order to accomplish this plan, the installation team removed portions of the bottom of the walls and the floor at the base of the same walls to create space for where our WaterGuard system would go. WaterGuard lies at the joist and collects any water trickling through the walls and redirects to the sump pump. WaterGuard is practically invisible since the missing pieces of the wall and floor are replaced, making it noninvasive. There were some portions of the wall that the team couldn’t access to install WaterGuard since the boiler and other existing equipment was in the way. To circumvent this issue, the team installed a TrenchDrain around the inaccessible area and then hooked it back up to the WaterGuard on the other side. TrenchDrain does the same thing as WaterGuard, the only difference is that it is designed to be installed on the open floor like you see in the photos. Once those products were placed and the concrete was re-poured, the team then placed CleanSpace along the walls to provide a vapor barrier to the basement. Finally, the old sump pump was replaced with one of our TripleSafe sump pumps. The TripleSafe is a top of the line product that can handle large amounts of water with no problem, making it a powerful, reliable product more than capable of keeping water out of the basement. All together, these products create a highly effective waterproofing system that provided relief to a homeowner in need!
This homeowner had a basement that was consistently very wet and damp, causing not only water damage, but also humid, stuffy air quality. After meeting with one of our certified design specialists, a simple waterproofing plan was drawn up that involved products that would combine to be highly effective at keeping the basement dry. The first step in getting the system set up was to remove a small portion of the walls where they meet the floor to make room for the TrenchDrain to be installed. The TrenchDrain collects incoming water and redirects it to the other newly installed product: a SinglePack sump pump. The SinglePack will then take the water and pump it out of the house to a distance away where it won’t come back. These two products handle the actual water, but in order to combat the high humidity, a SaniDry Sedona was also installed to keep the air at a comfortable level. With these three products working as a team, this basement’s water problems will be but a memory.
