Structural issues are serious business. At any sign of cracks, sinking, or buckling, it’s vital that you act before the problem spirals. This customer noticed the structural integrity of their crawlspace was declining and made the right choice in getting it inspected. Our design specialist, Joe Toomey, went in to investigate the space and agreed with the homeowner that it was time to act to prevent any detrimental damage.
What our design specialist recommended was a series of SmartJacks to stop the house from settling and raise the sagging floor back to the correct level. These steel piers are adjustable and more than capable of keeping the floor in the right place. Paired with the SmartJacks, support beams were added to help keep the crawlspace stable. And, just for safe measure to protect the SmartJacks, joist assist brackets were installed to keep the SmartJacks doing their job for a long time, allowing the homeowner to rest easy knowing their crawlspace and floors are in good hands.
The issue with this crawlspace was humidity and moisture. Luckily, there’s a product that is more than capable of taking on the job: The Sanidry Sedona. This dehumidifier is perfect for putting a stop to mold growth, musty odors, and dust mites. While crawlspaces and basements may not be the space you spend the most time in by any means, maintaining good air quality is important because the air in these spaces rises and spreads throughout the house, setting the tone for how the condition of your entire house will be. If down below is to wet and musty, then mugginess, asthma, and allergies will become a problem. Installation of this product is rather simple and cost-effective as time goes on. To start, we go in and get readings on the humidity levels and see I there’s any potential concerns regarding the condition of the crawlspace. After determining humidity was the key factor, we brought in the Sanidry Sedona to help dry out the space and improve the air quality. This homeowner had a crawl space that was a bit on the older side, so much of its waterproofing and concrete was dated and ineffective. When we surveyed the crawl space, we noticed many damp spots and areas where water pooled during heavy rains. Thankfully, the solution to the moisture problem was not a complicated, burdensome project—all it took was the right products!
The first product we’ll take a look at is the WaterGuard system. Think of WaterGuards as an indoor gutter. They attach at the joists and run along the floor, collecting seeping moisture and redirecting it to the sump pump (more on that later). Installation begins by measuring and mapping out a path through the crawl space that’ll most effectively gather up any present moisture. Typically, this route simply goes around the walls of the crawl space. Once the locations are determined, we gather the proper amount of WaterGuards we’d need, create a space for them to fit snugly into, and install.
WaterGuards, as mentioned earlier, feed into the sump pump of the house to have the invading water sent out. This house had a TripleSafe Sump System installed to work off of the WaterGuards and keep any water that slipped into the crawl space flowing out of the home. The TripleSafe is a fantastic sump pump because it can handle high-levels of water with no problem. And, in the event of bad weather resulting in frost or power outages, it keeps on going thanks to its backup battery and the IceGuard which was also installed during this project.
The final two products we will look at is CleanSpace and Drainage Matting. CleanSpace acts as a vapor barrier, preventing moisture from entering the crawl space through the walls. This product acts like a first line of defense for this home, making the WaterGuard’s job a lot easier because it won’t have to handle heavy loads of accumulated moisture. The Drainage Matting helps keep any water that does manage to get in from pooling and moves it along to the WaterGuard system.
All in all this home’s waterproofing system is super well-rounded and more than ready to take on any water that may come its way in the future thanks to these products working like a well-oiled machine!
Old stone foundations can look like trouble. When they start to crumble and break, it may seem like nothing short of a complete foundation replacement will suffice. The owner of this home was worried about the state their foundation walls were in so they called us to have someone come take a look and see what options existed. One of our certified design specialists took a careful look at the broken areas of the walls as well as the others to gauge if the entire area was in trouble and needed attention as well. Much to the relief of the homeowner, the design specialist was able to find a solution that wouldn’t require an entire replacement or outside excavation! The process for an EverBrace installation starts like all our other jobs: lots of measuring and mapping. Foundation support is a careful process and needs to be precise otherwise we risk foundation failure. Once all the prepwork was completed and double-checked, our installation team brought in the materials and products needed for the job. The EverBrace installation process goes as follows: Steel I-beams are placed at intervals with steel corrugated panels spanning between. These are placed to strengthen the existing structure while a specialized rigid foam is injected behind the panels. This foam fills in any gaps or openings between the panels and the existing walls, allowing the load to be transferred from the deteriorating wall to the EverBrace system. It’s certainly a careful process, but one that was extremely beneficial to the foundation of this home. EverBrace is a permanent solution that gave these homeowners peace of mind that they won’t have to worry about the integrity of their foundation any more.

Wanting to have a window that not only was efficient at keeping moisture and drafts out, but also allowed more natural light in, they had us install a new one! The process started with careful measurements so we knew exactly what size window to use. Once the window was ready, the installation team removed the old one and cut out a large chunk of the wall to allow room for the bigger window to be placed. After working both inside and outside the home, the window was installed and any small gaps between the window and the wall were filled in. Then, an area for a window well and covering was dug and the products complimentary to the window were installed. Now, this homeowner has a beautiful new window that helps the health of their house and freshens up the look!
