This job was a combination of foundation support and window installation. The foundation walls were bulging and cracking throughout the blocks in a number of locations. As for the window, they were rather dated and lost integrity as the basement walls faltered. To remedy this situation, we installed a series of PowerBraces along the affected walls to keep them from becoming displaced any further. They also get tightened during annual maintenances, bringing the walls gradually back to their original positions. As for the window, we removed the old one and cut a larger opening where the sill was to allow room for a bigger EverLast windows. These windows are great because they allow for more natural light, are energy efficient, and provide a cleaner look to the basement.
Window installations are a very careful process. Measurements have to be done with care and precision. They are taken from both the inside and outside of the home, checking then double-checking each one. And when a window well is involved, like in the case of this house, those measurements must also be carefully considered. Once the prep work is completed, custom windows are ordered. No two basement windows are the same, so any old window can’t just be plugged in. The fit must be perfect, which is why windows are specifically ordered for each job. Once the windows come in, the window well location is dug out to make room for the installation team to work. The crew removes the old window and inserts the new one, filling in any vague openings between the window and the sill so there's no entry points for water to get in or heat to escape. Then, on the outside of the home, the new window well is installed. With both products installed, the dirt that was removed is filled in and the team cleans up any other mess they made during the process. New basement windows provide a pop of sleekness to the look of the home while also protecting it from water, animals, and loss of heat.
This job involved revisiting a former customer of ours who had gotten a waterproofing system installed previously and wanted to get some foundation support. The problem that was discovered and of primary concern was buckling walls. A design specialist walked through and inspected the entire basement, checking each wall to see how displaced they were. Basements aren’t always the same height, so it’s important the size of the PowerBraces match up, otherwise they won’t be effective. So the proper size PowerBraces were brought in and custom-cut to fit perfectly in the basement. The team installed them at the marked off locations, attaching them at the base and top of the wall. PowerBraces are a great solution because installation is simple, requiring no outside excavation; all the team needed to do was attach them snugly to the walls. And as you can see in the photos, they can fit right in and around anything that's already present in the basement. With this PowerBrace system in place, the foundation of this home won’t suffer any further and over time the steel beams can be tightened over time and even correct the walls back to their original position!
Windows aren’t just for light and aesthetic purposes, they also are super important in a waterproofing system—especially basement windows. Water can easily slip through the cracks of old, rotted ones, leading to pools of water forming on the ground, which nobody wants. The process for our EverLast window replacements is simple and effective. First, we take careful measurements of the sill so we know the exact size window we need to order since each one is custom made. Once the window is brought in, we remove the old one and clear out the sill of any leftover debris. Then, we put in the EverLast, sealing it tightly and double checking that there’s no gaps or openings where water can get in and heat can get out. And that’s all there is to it. The basement is now better protected and insulated, plus it’s received a fresh new look!
