Over time, it’s only natural that unsupported basement walls begin to sink and shift due to decades of environmental influences. That’s why it’s important to recognize the symptoms of a failing foundation and take action before the problem gets out of hand. This homeowner noticed cracks and that the basement walls were potentially bowing. They called us and we got to work finding a solution to their foundation settlement issue.
In this house’s case, the solution to the buckling walls was thankfully a simple one. No daunting overhaul was needed and most importantly, no outside excavation. All this basement needed was one product: PowerBraces. Our design specialist inspected the basement and found that only one of the walls was suffering from any sort of bowing, which is certainly a relief. Since only one wall required assistance, only two PowerBraces were needed to get the job done. We marked and measured precise locations for each of the PowerBraces so one isn’t taking on more weight than the other, noting how tall the ceiling is so we knew what size was needed. Then, once the PowerBraces arrived, we attached them to the wall and tightened them to hug the wall perfectly, and the job was done! PowerBraces are perfect to keep walls from buckling any further and provide the foundation with extra support in its ongoing back and forth with Mother Nature. As an added bonus, PowerBraces can even be tightened over time and potentially correct the displaced wall, setting it back to its original position!

To tackle this problem head on and make it disappear, a sizable, yet simple, overhaul was required. A SuperSafe Sump Pump was installed to keep the water flowing out of the house and to a safe distance away. To capture and divert any leaks through the walls or ceiling, a revitalized drainage system involving a TrenchDrain and a PolyDrain—two easy to install and unobtrusive products—was used. And the last two products used to round everything out were CleanSpace to protect the walls from moisture, and an EverLast window to help keep water out and heat in.
